Jenielle Sue (Rosamond) Greenlee, 76, of Edmond, Oklahoma, was born July 7, 1945, in Shawnee, Oklahoma to parents Loren B. “Hot” and Bertie McCully Rosamond. She passed from this life to the Heavenly Father on September 18, 2021 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
Jenielle was the 3rd child of 4 and attended Horace Mann elementary school in Shawnee, 1st grade through 7th grade. Then, Shawnee Jr. High and High school and graduated in 1963. She worked a short time at Mission Hill Hospital as a nurse’s aide before attending the University of Central Oklahoma. There she met her soon-to-be husband and love of her life, Marshall Greenlee. They were happily married July 31, 1965 at East Main Church of Christ. In 1968, they welcomed a son, Monty. They made their home in Luther, Oklahoma before moving to Edmond in 1987.
Jenielle was active in the Luther JC Jaynes. Every summer, she, Marshall, and Monty were always part of the Luther JC’s group who went to the lake. So many fond memories of them and the “Luther Hilton”.
If there was a stock show or pig sale, she was there! If you needed Blue and Gold sausage, Jenielle knew where you could buy it; always supporting the Luther FFA. She never missed a football game Monty played in or any other Luther activity in which he was involved.
Jenielle was the kindest, sweetest person and never had a bad thing to say about anyone. She was a true friend and loved getting together with girlfriends to celebrate birthdays, but she didn’t really need an event, just being with friends was celebration enough. She and Marshall started the Saturday Luther Dinner group; they enjoyed trying new restaurants and seeing old friends. You could always count on her beautiful smile. She was a mentor to many and encouraged you to continue your education and to never stop learning.
Jenielle loved her family and was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, daughter, and aunt. She and Marshall were so proud of their son Monty. He grew up with a strong work ethic, graduating from Luther high school, and earned his Bachelors from Oklahoma State, and a Master’s degree from Florida State. In 1996, they welcomed Katlyn Summers to the family as she and Monty were Married in Oklahoma City.
In 2001, Katlyn and Monty had a beautiful baby boy, Malichi, and Jenielle was so excited to begin a new chapter in life as a grandmother and received a “cool” name to go by, “Grandma GG.” In 2005 Katlyn and Monty were blessed with the birth of their daughter, Grace Ella “GG” Greenlee, and she immediately won the heart of her Grandma GG.
Jenielle’s work career began at The University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center in 1965, where she worked continuously for 51 years. Working her way up in responsibilities and leadership, she retired in 2016 as Associate Dean for Administration and Finance for the College of Allied Health. While working full-time and caring for a young son and husband, Jenielle went on to continue her education, graduating with a Bachelor’s of Business Administration from University of Central Oklahoma, and also a Master’s in Public Health/Health Care Administration from OU College of Public Health. During her career, Jenielle was recognized for her service with many awards, including the highest award that any staff member could receive at the University, the Regents’ Award for Superior Staff. When Jenielle first began working for the College of Allied Health, the college was known as the College of Health Professions, and it later was separated into two separate colleges. Jenielle was instrumental in creating policies and procedures that make the college what it is today.
She worked closely with the first four deans of the college, including the founding dean. When the college received funding to build a new building, she worked with the architects and engineers to ensure the building was functional but beautiful as well.
Jenielle also loved her work family. She was a mentor and friend to countless faculty and staff in the college and university. She encouraged everyone who worked with her to continue their education and keep learning. Her work was ethical, organized, professional, and flawless. She had modelled these traits and had the same expectations of her employees. She was honored in 2015 for her tireless support and work with the college with a room dedicated in her honor at the College of Allied Health called the Jenielle Greenlee Faculty Staff Commons Room. She often referred to the college as “her beloved college,” and was a faithful donor for many years.
Jenielle was an active member of New Covenant United Methodist Church, where she and Marshall attended faithfully. They hosted a small group, the Owls, and were involved in many other activities there, as well. Jenielle gave her life to the Lord, was baptized and lived a life of service. Jenielle would often volunteer to serve with the annual Thanksgiving dinner ministry, as well as other ministry opportunities. She would light up a room wherever she was and was a friend to many there.
Jenielle had several hobbies, including watching OU and OSU games, usually having a tailgate party either at her house or one of her friends. But watching her granddaughter play volleyball and her grandson play his music were her deepest joys.
She loved animals, especially dogs. She and Marshall had several dogs over the years; her latest were her French Bulldogs, Joey and Avery, who she doted over like children. She enjoyed going to school reunions at Luther, going out to eat with their dinner group, and loved travelling, spending time in Mexico with close friends, or visiting Monty, Katlyn, Malichi and GG in Arizona. She and Marshall were avid motorcycle riders for a time and took several trips with friends. Jenielle loved the holidays, especially Christmas, and would always dress up for each one. She knew the B.C. Clark Christmas jingle word for word. She was generous with her time, her love, and her gifts.
Jenielle was a cancer survivor and an advocate for early screening for colon cancer. She shared her story with everyone she knew and encouraged them to have their screenings done. She quickly beat cancer and kept on living life to the fullest.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Loren and Bertie Rosamond; brother, Donald “Don” Rosamond; sister, Avis Simon; brother-in-law, Bill Butler; and very close friend Vickie Tytenicz.
Jenielle is survived by her beloved husband of 56 years, Marshall; their son, Monty and his wife Katlyn; grandson Malichi; granddaughter, GG; sister, Lorna Bowen and her husband Robert of Shawnee, OK; sister-in-law, Roxey Butler of San Antonio, Texas; nieces: Karla, Kim, and Melanie; nephews: Grant, James, Chris, and Randy; fur babies, Joey and Avery; a host of other relatives, close friends, and former coworkers; and an amazing family of church friends.
