Jerome Joseph Borgert was born in Sarasota, Florida on May 16, 1943 to Jerome Victor and Anne Delores (Rapp). The oldest of four children, Jerry (as he was often called) grew up in Dayton, Ohio where he was an honor news boy, accordion player, and member of the high school tennis team. Always the life of the party, he rarely missed a school dance or social event. He enlisted in the United States Marine Corps at the age of 17, and following his graduation from Chaminade High School, served for two years before transitioning to the Air Force to pursue radiography. While stationed at Homestead Air Force Base in Florida, Jerry married and became a father to his sons. He worked in hospitals for several years before starting a career in mobile x-ray, which took him back to Ohio and, ultimately, Oklahoma.
On September 2, 1992, Jerry married the love of his life, Elizabeth (Liz) Jule Johnson, in Eureka Springs, Arkansas. After building a home together in Edmond, they incorporated their successful family business, Diagnostic Mobile X-Ray (DMX), in October 1993. Both Oklahoma transplants, Jerry and Liz created their own local family in DMX’s many loyal employees, partners, and friends. Jerry continued to add to his chosen and biological family in 1994 when he adopted Liz’s two young daughters and again in 1996 when he and Liz welcomed a baby girl. A gregarious and generous man, Jerry loved his family and friends intensely and with all of his heart.
Jerry had always dreamed of big adventures, and though he never left the continental United States, he loved road trips and seeing the country. His favorite destinations included Biloxi, Mississippi; Dayton, Ohio; Eureka Springs, Arkansas; Gulf Shores, Alabama; Santa Fe, New Mexico; and St. Augustine, Florida. He had a seemingly limitless number of interests and hobbies; most importantly, he had a true passion for traveling, collecting, music, movies, and animals. Jerry was a philanthropist, entrepreneur, and all around bon vivant. Aside from his cherished family, perhaps his greatest pride and legacy is DMX, which proudly serves Oklahomans in the example set by him, its CEO.
A beloved husband, father, brother, uncle, and friend, Jerry passed peacefully in his home on Wednesday, June 14, 2023. He is preceded in death by his parents and sister Patrice. He is survived by his wife; his siblings Thomas and Susan (Jim); and children Jerome Eugene (Kim), Jonathan, Stephanie (Taylor), Kirsten (Jordan), Joshua (Julee), and Anna (Jonny), as well as nine grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, please direct any donations to the Turpentine Creek Wildlife Refuge in Eureka Springs, Arkansas.
A memorial service for Jerome will be held Wednesday, June 21, 2023 at 10:00 AM at Baggerley Funeral Home, 930 South Broadway, Edmond, OK 73034.
