Jon was the son of John and Elsie Main. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He married W. Jean McLaughlin in Keego Harbor, MI, and they just celebrated their 67th anniversary on March 3, 2022.
After graduating from McDonald High School in McDonald, PA in 1952, he entered the Coast Guard in Cape May, NJ. After a distinguished career that took him all over the country and various parts of the world, he retired in February 1979 after 26 years of service. He earned the National Defense Medal with a Bronze Star, six Coast Guard Good Conduct Awards, the Coast Guard Meritorious Unit Commendation with the “O” Operational Distinguishing Device and the Vietnam Service Medal.
After retiring from the Coast Guard, he worked for a short time at the local Coca Cola bottling plant and then went to work at the General Motors assembly plant in Oklahoma City from May 1979 until he retired in November 2003.
He was an avid fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers, the Pittsburgh Pirates and the Pittsburgh Penguins. He enjoyed time at the lake, fishing, watching the stock market and giving advice whenever asked. He was highly thought of by everyone who crossed his path and will be greatly missed by all.
Jon was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Robert Main; sister, Elinor Mezynski; and grandson, Sean Williams. He is survived by his wife, Jean of Edmond, OK; daughters: Cheryl Nickel (Lyle) of Shady Shores, TX, Cindy Williams of Edmond, OK, and Brenda Patton (Jim) of Edmond, OK; grandchildren: Cassie Evans, Brian Nickel, Michael Patredis, Nathan Williams, Ian Williams, Angela Patton, Kale Williams, Erin Gatlin, Christopher Patton, Tyler Patton, and Carson Patton; and numerous great-grandchildren.
