

Lowell E. Thompson, 81, passed away November 25, 2010 in Edmond, Oklahoma. Lowell was born on March 4th, 1929 in Calvin, Oklahoma to William P. & Alice Thompson. Lowell graduated from Edmond High School and later graduated from the University of Central Oklahoma where he was a past president of the UCO Foundation Board of Directors. The Thompson Family was the first recipient of the “University of Central Oklahoma Family of the Year Award” in 2002. There is also a park on the University Campus named the “Thompson Garden”. Lowell was long time owner of family business Thompson Book & Supply Company, established in 1926. He was president of the NSSEA in 1972. Lowell loved his 50 years in the business and relationships he developed with his hundreds of employees, many of which worked with him their entire careers. Upon retiring in 1996, Lowell and Leona moved to Falconhead where they made lifelong friendships that Lowell treasured. He owned the Falconhead Airport, and was instrumental in building the Falconhead Chapel. Lowell truly enjoyed flying his airplane and was an avid golfer. Some of his favorite memories were taking golf trips around the Country with his wife Leona and his close friends. Preceded in death by his parents, his brother Bill, and his first wife Geraldine. Survived by his wife Leona, son Jim Thompson, daughter Janie Davis, grandson Robert Davis and wife Jillian, stepson Jack Thomas and wife Kathy, stepson Jim Thomas, nephew Mike Thompson and wife Gayle, niece Becky Nichols and husband Frank, 3 grandchildren and 1 great grandson. A Formal Visitation will be 6:00pm-8:00pm, Monday, November 29, at Baggerley Funeral Home. Funeral Services for Lowell will be 11:00 am, Tuesday, November 30, 2010 at Baggerley Funeral Home Chapel with interment following at Gracelawn Cemetery. Donations may be made to the Baptist Children’s Home, Boys Ranch Town, and the University of Central Oklahoma Foundation.
