

William Richard Flinsbaugh was born January 16, 1933 in Oklahoma City to John William and Hazel Faye (Sweet) Flinsbaugh. Richard was diagnosed with Mesothelioma August 17, 2018 and passed peacefully in his home Saturday, September 29, 2018 at the age of 85.
He was a 1952 graduate of Capitol Hill High School. After graduating, Richard started working in the same field that his father and brother were working in. He started insulating pipe and became a member of the of the Oklahoma City Asbestos workers local union no. 94 in 1952.
Richard reported to the Army on April 10, 1953 and was sent to Ft Hood Texas where he took his basic training and was assigned to the 4005 Army Service Unit until discharged on April 9, 1955.
Richard went to work for the OCPD in 1957. He worked the scout cars for the first 2 years and then went on to motorcycles for another 2 years. Richard then took the detective exam and was assigned to the Juvenile division and stayed working for the OCPD for 1 more year.
Richard lived a good clean life, showing his family and friends about respect and obligations to their loved ones, work and life. Richard was proceeded in death by his parents John and Faye of OKC, Brother John of Tulsa, Nephews David of Tulsa and Jack of California. He is survived by his love Jill Pope of Edmond, niece Johnna Knapp of Tulsa, great nephews, Jesse Collins of Colorado, David – Caleb – Joshua of California, great nieces Jamie Knapp of Tulsa and Mary of California, sister-in-law Julia Gant of Oklahoma City and many other family and friends.
Richard was a proud member of The First United Methodist Church of Edmond, OK.
Richard always had a smile and a joke for a friend. He will be missed by many.
