Growing up, Rick enjoyed wresting and won several trophies. He also sang in church choirs from his high school years on. During his free time, Rick liked to go bowling and fishing; and when his family moved to Minnesota, he went as often as he could. He also had a huge love of trains and had an amazing Hot Wheels collection. Pretty much every time Rick went into a store, he bought a Hot Wheel. His first job was in Roundhouse for the Burlington Railroad in Aurora, IL. Following that, he mainly worked in the housekeeping department for hospitals.
During his lifetime, Rick owned and loved driving his three different Mustangs and always pointed out other Mustangs when he saw them going down the road. He and his father built and flew large model airplanes together. Rick loved attending church and was a member of Promise Keepers. When he became unable to attend church, it was still important that his family was attending. He would ask them every Sunday if they went to church that day. Before his fall, Rick lived at Teal Ridge Assisted Living Center and loved helping out. He would open and close the blinds, set up chairs for activities, and get the room ready for church. Rick was a gentle and kind person, always ready to help others when he could.
