

Ruth was born August 19, 1930 in Oklahoma City, OK to Floyd and Hazel Estes. She was the oldest of 8 children. The family eventually moved to El Reno, Oklahoma where Ruth attended and graduated from El Reno High School in 1949.
She was preceded in death by her parents, best friend and beloved sister, Juanita Parker and brother, Frank Estes. She is survived by 3 brothers: David Estes and wife Elsie, Gene Estes, and Leon Estes and wife Liz, and 2 sisters: Margaret Christian and husband Jerry, and Nancy Abshire.
Ruth met her future husband Donald in El Reno and shortly before he was drafted into the army they eloped to Fort Smith Arkansas to be married on 2-4-51. Ruth was preceded in death by Donald, her husband of 66 years, but is survived by three children: Allen Dodd and wife Teresa, Danny Dodd and wife Alida, and Ladonna Troutman. Also, 5 grandchildren, 6 step-grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren and 3 great step-grandchildren and many loving nieces and nephews.
Ruth and Don owned and operated a laundry/dry cleaners in Oklahoma City for many years and Ruth served as the Secretary/Treasurer of the National Automatic Laundry and Dry Cleaning Council in 1966. After the laundry was sold she went to work as the Credit Manager for Cook Paint and then Anchor Paint. She was a member of the National Association of Credit Management and served as Vice President and then President of the Credit Women’s Group of Oklahoma City from 1975-1977. She also served as the 1981 President of the Oklahoma Decorating Products Association.
Ruth was a long time member of the Extension Homemakers-Edmond Moonlighters Club. She was a seamstress and avid “collector” of fabric. She enjoyed needlework and cross stitch, earning many ribbons over the years in the Oklahoma County Fair.
Ruth helped Donald with all phases of the construction of a new home on their acreage in Edmond, Oklahoma. After Donald was injured during the construction, Ruth went to work at Homeland where she worked in the bakery and deli for many years before retiring. In 2000 Don and Ruth relocated to Amarillo, Texas to be closer to their daughter and grandchildren.
Ruth was a faithful Christian and member of Arden Road Baptist Church. She loved her church family and one of her proudest achievements was her graduation from the Faith Bible Institute.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Arden Road Baptist Church, Faith City Mission or the High Plains Food Bank.
A funeral service for Ruth will be held Saturday, January 25, 2025 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Baggerley Funeral Home, 930 South Broadway, Edmond, OK 73034. Following the funeral service will be a committal service from 2:30 PM to 3:00 PM at Resthaven Funeral Home, 500 SW 104th St, Oklahoma City, OK 73139.
