

Sue Alice Kern, born on July 16, 1931, in Nocona, Texas, passed away on December 13, 2025, at the age of 94. She was the cherished daughter of Cal and Isla McKinney. Sue was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, and she lived a life marked by dedication, learning, and community involvement.
Sue graduated from Central High School in 1948 and furthered her education at Central State College, where she graduated in 1951. She went on to earn a Master's Degree from Oklahoma University in 1966. Her passion for education led her to a career as a high school teacher, where she taught business, typing, shorthand, accounting, and COE at Classen High, NW Classen High, and Rose State College. In addition to her teaching career, she was also the owner of Kern Tackle Co.
Sue was married to Robert Wantland Kern for 70 years, and together they built a loving family. She is survived by her children, Joan Kern Ackley (David) and Shane Kern (Sharon). Her legacy continues through her grandchildren, Andrew Elrod, Kristopher Kern (Amber), Cody Kern (Sara), and Derek Ackley (Tia), as well as her great-grandchildren, Abbigail Ackley, Oliver Kern, Cass Kern, and Lucy Kern. Sue also leaves behind many nieces and nephews.
Her personal interests were varied and included travel, collecting antiques and sea shells, reading westerns and mysteries, genealogy, and photography. Sue was active in various clubs and was known for being an early computer user, reflecting her forward-thinking nature.
Sue Alice Kern's life was a testament to the values of education, family, and community. Her presence will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
