Winona Joyce Keester was a spirited and devoted mother, grandmother, and friend. Born in Oklahoma City on October 3, 1931, she was the cherished daughter of James and Mildred Hunt. A proud graduate of Central high school, she spent the first 31 years of her life in OKC before embarking on a new adventure in Orange County, California, in 1962—where she made her home for the next 61 years. In 2023, Winona returned to Oklahoma, where she lived out her final days.
She was a woman of many passions: an avid traveler who delighted in exploring new destinations—especially those with warm, sunny weather. Music was her joy, and she was particularly enchanted by Celine Dion, attending a concert alongside her son Mike.
Kind-hearted, patient, and respectful, Winona taught her family the importance of treating others with dignity and love. She had a special sparkle in her eyes when her grandsons came to visit—a testament to her boundless love and enthusiasm as a grandmother. She also found creative fulfillment in crocheting, and she had a sweet collection of teddy bears that brought her comfort and joy. Her loving sense of humor was infectious, especially when she laughed at the playful jokes her husband Bob would tell.
A proud descendant of the Choctaw Nation, Winona celebrated her heritage throughout her life, instilling in her family an appreciation for their roots. Her legacy lives on through the values she embodied and passed down: adventure, laughter, kindness, and above all, love for family.
She is preceded in death by her husband of 35 years, Robert Neil Keester and sister and brother-in-law Judith and William Hall, and fur baby Hershey.
She is survived by daughter, Nancy Leone Keester of Edmond, Oklahoma, son Michael Robert Keester and wife Sonya Keester of Edmond, Oklahoma, grandson Devin Blake Cranford, great-grandsons Dustin, Blake, and Deanie Cranford, many numerous nieces and nephews, and new fur baby, Willow.
Memorial Services will be held Wednesday, July 2, 2025, at 10:30 AM with reception to follow at Baggerley Funeral Home, 930 S. Broadway Edmond, Oklahoma 73034
