To try to summarize her life in a few minutes feels impossible, because she was so much to so many. One memory takes us to summers at our Lauderdale home where we had a huge wooden spool in the backyard and Mom would put a tablecloth on it. She would then lay out a grand lunch of homemade bread, soup and kubasa, cakes and cookies making us feel so very special. Saturday nights we would all have baths and wash our hair in preparation for church the next day. Mom would curl all four girls hair in rags, and Michael would crawl all over us.
She taught us the value of kindness and the importance of family. A comment often voiced by Mom was, “If you don’t have anything nice to say, you shouldn’t say anything at all.” One of the biggest lessons she taught us was, “A penny saved is a penny earned.”
Mom faced her own challenges, but she did so, with such courage and strength, and always maintained a great sense of humour. One of our aunts often said, “Elsie was an ordinary woman who accomplished extraordinary things.”
As we say goodbye to our dear mother, grandmother, great grandmother and sister, it is hard to imagine life without her beautiful smile greeting us. Mom, thank you for being our example of kindness and courage, determination, and stick to itness. You will always be in our hearts. We love you endlessly and may you rest in peace and love always.Your loving family!
