It is with deep sorrow and love that we announce the passing of Barbara Faye Young on February 4th, 2025, at the age of 77. Born September 12, 1947, in Happy Hollow, AB, she was the oldest of four siblings and will be remembered as a devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend.
Barb is survived by her five children: Gwen, Gayle, Jamie, Josh (Jenny), and Brittney (Kelly); her nine grandchildren: Jennifer (Sheldon), Danny, Taylor (Troy), Kendra (Greg), Brandy (Ryan), Carlie, Johnathan, Hunter, and Payton; and her eleven great-grandchildren: Makaiyla, Noah, Mason, Charlee, Morgan, Jax, Brielle, Carter, Nyiah, Caliya, and Namera. She is also survived by her brother Richard Young, sister Jocelyn Paul, and many nieces and nephews.
Barb was predeceased by her father, Joshua Young; mother, Faye Roth; her brother, Brian Young; sister-in-law, Noreen Young; and brother-in-law, Glen Paul.
A devoted Christian, Barb lived her life with God by her side, demonstrating her faith through acts of love, kindness, and generosity. She was an exemplary mother, known for her unconditional love, strength of spirit, and nurturing care for both her biological and foster children. Throughout her life, Barb was a source of inspiration, courage, and strength. She dedicated herself to her children as a single mother and also opened her heart to over 80 children as a foster parent, offering them the love and guidance they needed.
Barb’s incredible cooking and baking skills were legendary, with her famous pies and delicious holiday meals bringing joy to all who were fortunate enough to gather at her table. Her ability to create magic during the holidays with her creative imagination and warm spirit will forever be cherished by her family, especially the treasured memories of Twiddle bugs, golden Easter eggs, and overflowing stockings.
In addition to her nurturing spirit, Barb enjoyed the simple joys of life. She loved to dance, fish, and spend time berry picking, embracing the outdoors and finding peace in these activities.
Barb left us as she lived her life – strong, determined, and full of love. She will be missed deeply by all who knew her, but her legacy of love, care, and devotion will continue to inspire and guide us all.
We would like to thank Dr. Stader and the staff at Agecare Sagewood in Strathmore, as well as the Rockyford neighbourhood, for their compassionate care and support during Barb’s time with them.
In her memory, we find comfort in the words of Psalm 23:1-3: “The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He makes me lie down in green pastures. He leads me beside still waters. He restores my soul.”
A memorial service will be held on February 9th, 2025, at 2:00PM at Memories Funeral Home in Edmonton. All who knew and loved Barb are welcome to attend.
The graveside service will be held on Monday, February 10, 2025 at 2:00 pm from the Lessard Cemetery.
