at the age of 72 at the University of Alberta Hospital.
Bernie was predeceased by his parents, Indalecio and Socorro, brothers Tom (Sally) and Marionito, and wife Adela and daughter Kristle. He is survived by his current wife Tess, siblings Erlinda, Romeo (Heidi), Eleanor (Victor) Nocum, and Annelyn (Fermin) Bodegon, and numerous nephews, nieces and cousins.
Bernardo worked for Utex Textile in the Philippines for one year before joining the Philippine Navy, where he served for eight years, while at the same time earning his Bachelor of Science in Commerce-Management. He eventually joined Adela in Canada in 1977, settled in Edmonton, and had their daughter Kristle in 1983.
Bernardo worked for the majority of his time with the Edmonton Public School Board, first as a custodian and moving up the ranks as Head Custodian.
An avid outdoorsman and fisherman during his heydays, he would explore the province in search of great fishing adventures. He was also a sportsman and served as a well-known referee and umpire in numerous basketball and baseball tournaments around Edmonton, and beyond.

A funeral mass will occur Thursday, December 21, 2023 at 11:00 AM at St. Charles Catholic Church, 17511 112 Street, Edmonton, Alberta.
