

Brigitte was born in Elbing, Germany in 1933, spending her adolescent life growing up in Berlin. She moved to Canada in 1951 with her father, mother and brother. She married her husband Reinhold in 1953, and they built their life in Edmonton, AB. She was an active member of First Mennonite Church, Women In Mission, and the Lioness’. Brigitte will be remembered for her sharp wit and intellect, hospitality, service to her community, and above all her love for her family.
Brigitte was predeceased by her parents Magdalene and Otto Hahn; her husband of 66 years, Reinhold Kuehne; and her grandson, Matthew Kuehne (Angila).
She will be missed by her four children, Herb (Elaine), John (Valerie), Catherine, and Tony (Erin); her five grandchildren, Maegan (Paul), Jessica, Brenna, Nathan and Liam (Louisa); and her four great-grandchildren Madalyn, Quinn, Audrey and James. She additionally leaves behind her brother Dr. O.J. Hahn of Kentucky, his children Thomas (Laura), Renata, Stephen (Sushannah), and their families. She will be remembered fondly by her remaining family in Germany, and her many friends.
A memorial service to celebrate Brigitte’s life will be held on Wednesday, May 21, 2025, at 1:30 PM MST at First Mennonite Church, located at 3650 91st Street NW, Edmonton, AB. The service will be streamed via zoom for friends and family that cannot attend by clicking the link here.
