Colleen was born in High River, Alberta on September 16th, 1939. She was predeceased by her parents Arnold and Carmen Roy, as well her daughter Heather Dawn Day and her husband of 57 years, Arthur (Scotty) Day. She is survived by her children Kevin (Frances) and Karen (David) and her four beloved grandchildren – Madelyn Lee, Fiona Lee, Abbey Day and Hayden Day, as well as her brother Bruce Roy and Sister Freddie Shupe and numerous nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews.
Colleen graduated from the University of Alberta Hospital with an RN in 1960 and worked in paediatric nursing from 1960 to 1965 when she returned to university and completed her BScN in 1967. She then taught paediatric nursing at the Royal Alex Hospital School of Nursing, leaving in 1972 to raise her children. Once her kids were teenagers, she returned to work at the Glen Sather Sports Medicine Clinic and then the Kinsmen Sports Medicine Clinic until she retired.
She enjoyed camping with her family and friend and many summers were spent with family in the mountain campgrounds in Alberta and B.C. and at Wabamun Lake. She enjoyed reading, knitting for her friend and grandchildren, and her morning aquacise with friends at the pool. Especially important were the reunions with her nursing classmates and the lunches when they got together.
Colleen was a wonderful mother, wife, sister, grandmother and friend. She was always positive and upbeat, and her energy and zest for life was contagious. She will be missed dearly by all who had the pleasure of knowing her.
A celebration of Colleen’s life will be held on Saturday September 28th at the Hampton Inn by Hilton, Edmonton South 10020 12th Avenue SW, Edmonton, beginning at 2:00 pm in the Hampton Meeting Room.
