Douglas Thomas White of Edmonton, passed away unexpectedly at home on February 26th, 2024. Doug was born on May 4th, 1942, in Edmonton, Alberta. Doug is dearly loved and remembered by his brother, Ken White (Dolores); sister, Pat Moynes; nephews, Terry Moynes and Allan Moynes (Rachel); nieces, Leah White (Scott) and Lyndsay Norsworthy (Tyler) and their children, Hadley and Cooper. Doug was predeceased by his loving wife, Doreen; his parents, Stanley White and Thora White; and his brother, Barry White.
Doug was born in Edmonton at the Royal Alexandra Hospital and began his childhood in the Heatherdown, Onoway area. In his teen years, he moved to Edmonton where he made his home for the rest of his life. Doug started a career in the oil patch as a roustabout for a well testing company where he quickly realized his talents were not as a manual labor worker. He then took his place as an office employee for Cameron Iron Works and later moved on to Barber Industries. After a number of years in the wellhead business, he moved on to be a co-founder of a thriving camp and catering business. He spent the rest of his career in this part of the oil patch and later sold the business to Precision Drilling, where he stayed until his retirement.
Doug spent many an hour on golf courses around the world, as well as being a member of his beloved Windermere Golf and Country Club for many decades. He met many lifelong friends at the club and served as president for one year. In pursuit of his passion for golf, he and Doreen ended up spending many winter months in Phoenix, AZ., where they ultimately bought a winter residence in a golf community. They spent many wonderful years there and, together, made many memories in their desert retreat. Sadly, Doreen passed away and Doug had to spend his later years without the love of his life.
Doug will be remembered as a true champion of family events, always organizing and attending events together. He was also a very loyal and dedicated friend to all of his extended family and friends, always maintaining contact by whatever means.
We are all losing a lovely family member and friend and he will leave a big void in all of our lives. Rest in Peace Doug and say hello to Doreen and everyone else when you get there.
Doug's service will be livestreamed. A link for the livestream will be available shortly before the service start time in the Services section below.
