

Duncan passed away peacefully at 7:35am on October 26, 2025 with his two daughters by his side.
Duncan was born May 18, 1945 in Edinburgh, Scotland, son to James and Janet "Jenny" Merrylees.
Duncan is survived by his wife of 58 years, Denise Elizabeth Merrylees (Coyle), his son Neil James Merrylees (Melissa Bray), and his daughters Jo-Anne Denise Merrylees and Nicola Jane Pagliaroli (Alfonso Pagliaroli). Duncan is also survived by his grandchildren Taylor, Ryley, Tavish, Sofia, Gresham, and Saoirse.
Duncan is predeceased by his parents and his brother Alan Merrylees and nephew William Merrylees.
Duncan was a strong man who was set in his ways; Duncan liked being in his garden or puttering around. Duncan worked for British Rail for 17 years before moving to Canada. He was lucky enough to have been a double heart transplant recipient.
The family wishes to thank the University of Alberta Hospital Transplant Team, Kidney Team, and Mazankowski Heart Institute, including Dr. Kim, Dr. Tymchuk, Dr. Burton & Ilene Burton, and thanks to Tammy Olthuizen and the many other nurses and support staff who took great care of Duncan over the years.
A Memorial Tea will be held on Friday, October 31, 2025 at 2pm at Memories Funeral Home, 13403 St. Albert Trail in Edmonton, Alberta for family and friends to gather for a time of refreshment and fellowship in Duncan's honour.
