July 8, 1976 - January 27, 2025
It is with broken hearts that we share the passing of our beloved husband, father, grandfather, son, and brother, Sgt. Edward Sean Meaney, on January 27, 2025, after a courageous battle with PTSD.
Ed is survived by his loving wife of 25 years, Amy Evoy, their five beautiful children, Riley (partner Kyla Milne), Kennedy (fiancée Isaac Wilcox), Ella, Molly, and Kaiden, and his cherished grandson, Alistair. He also leaves behind his parents, Ed and Isabelle Meaney, his mother-in-law, Gertrude Evoy, and his siblings, Elizabeth (Brad Beckett), and Susan (Colin Brennan), and sister-in-law, Andrea Evoy (Jim Ellis). Ed's nieces and nephews, Jane and Sam Beckett, Emmett and Tessa Brennan, Frankie and Tomlyn Ellis, as well as aunts, uncles, cousins from the Meaney, Connors, Linehan and Evoy families, and lifelong friends will miss him dearly. He was predeceased by his father-in-law, Andrew Evoy.
Sgt. Ed Meaney proudly served in the Royal Canadian Air Force for 28 years, both in Canada and on multiple deployments abroad. Throughout his distinguished career, Ed earned numerous accolades, including the Chief of Defense Staff Commendation for his selfless actions to aid a civilian, and a Commendation from Chief Warrant Officer (RCAF) for his caring and supportive leadership of his team at 14 Wing following a tragic loss. Ed's deep sense of kindness and devotion to others was evident in every aspect of his life. Whether in his military service or at home with his family, he always put others first.
As a child, Eddie was adventurous, spending countless hours building forts, playing with friends on Bragg Cres, trouting with his father, and enjoying summers in Conception Harbour. His playful spirit continued into adulthood as he became the biggest cheerleader and source of joy for his children. Whether playing games, sharing laughter, or braving the cold for a skate on winter nights, Ed was always the first to lead in fun with his children, Riley, Kennedy, Ella, Molly, and Kaiden. His love and joy for life continued with his grandson, Alistair, bringing fresh joy and cherished memories for Ed and Amy.
Ed had a special ability to make everyone feel welcome and was always happy to have the kids and their friends around, cooking up a storm for them and having fun. He really cared about the children’s circle of friends and had great relationships with many of them. He cherished the special place that Ruth Parker has in their family. He loved the true friends of the kids, Max Harding and Matt Moganson, Anna Sawler, Kristina Remenda and Katie Bushell.
Ed will be deeply missed by all who knew him, and his legacy of love, dedication, and service will never be forgotten.
Amy and the family would like to extend a special thank you to Andrea Evoy and Susan Cool for all of their love and support during the last few very difficult days. Also, to Curtis Dafoe for being there not only as a liaison to help navigate the challenges and complexities of the processes following this tragic loss, but also for being a good friend to Ed and support for the family.
A celebration of life will take place in the Elkhorn Room at 210 Ortona Ave lancaster Park, at 1:00pm Friday February 7, 2025.
A Military Funeral will be held at home in Newfoundland, the place he loved so much, in the Spring/Summer 2025. Details will be shared at a later date
In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Soldier On, Guitars for Vets, Quilts of Valour or other charities in support of veterans and their families or mental health.
