On a bright and sunny April day, our beloved wife, sister, mother, grandmother and friend passed away peacefully taking a long, jaunty walk to heaven to be with her beloved dog Whiskey and many others she loved along the way.
Born in Scotland, she immigrated to Canada in 1969 for a job she was looking forward to beginning. In 1971 she married her love, Gerry at Robertson Wesley Church here in Edmonton. Liz was a passionate Physical Therapist at the WCB whose work ethic was unmatched. She loved her job and was committed to working until her retirement in 2008. Since retiring, Liz spent time living the “good life” in Mesa, Arizona. There she enjoyed golfing, walking and enjoying the beautiful weather. She liked to keep busy and was an avid volunteer who worked at the Cross Cancer and Telus World of Science. Liz and Gerry travelled the world far and wide, enjoying trying new foods, meeting people and delving into other cultures.
Her pride and joy was being a grandmother. Always vivacious; frozen yogurt, popsicles, secret snacks, soccer playing and puzzle making became her specialties.
Mum will be lovingly remembered and greatly missed by her husband of fifty years Gerry, daughters Elissa and Sally-Anne (Rex). Grandchildren KaiLeigh and Kaden and godson Zarley. Sister Linda-Anne, brother John (Christine), sister-in-law Sally (Cam) and brother-in-law Mike. She will also be sadly missed by all her nieces and nephews both in Alberta and in Scotland. One other person who cannot be missed is her loving caregiver Mitch who was always at mum’s side. The whole family was blessed to have her in our lives and we trusted her to the very end. Thank you Mitch for your unwavering support.
Mum, you were the Scottish lass that loved to laugh, socialize and dance. You worked hard and created a sense of work ethic that became a standard to which we emulate. You were colourful, community-driven and full of life. We are proud of the strong fight you gave and your Scottish stubbornness right to the bitter end. We will miss you deeply.
In lieu of flowers please consider a donation in Mum’s name directly to the Alberta Cross Cancer Society, Telus World of Science or to Alzheimer's Edmonton. Also a big fan of organ donation, please consider letting your loved ones know of your final wishes.
Due to provincial guidelines, the family will celebrate with a small memorial service. Service link will be provided once all details have been made. However, knowing mum would like to go out in style please mark your calendar for Canada Day (July 1st) 2022. An amazing tribute in celebration of Liz will be planned in her honour on that day.
