Born on October 16, 1949, in Chiguayante, Chile, Gaston’s life was a testament to love, family and perseverance. Gaston believed in the power of family and dedicated his life to creating a loving and supportive home. Gaston’s stories, advice, and warm hugs will be remembered and cherished by all who knew him.
Gaston was a proud Canadian, immigrating to Canada in 1975 and receiving his Canadian citizenship in 1982. He was a proud Freemason and Shriner whose life was guided by the principles of Brotherly Love, Relief, and Truth. A passionate sports enthusiast, Gaston was a loyal fan of the Edmonton Oilers, the Edmonton Elks, Colo-Colo (Chile), as well as the Canadian and Chilean national soccer teams. One of Gaston’s greatest passions was teaching and sharing his native language, Spanish. A lifelong traveler, he embraced the world with curiosity and generosity, eagerly sharing the cultures and beauty of Chile, South America, and the many places he explored across the Americas, Europe, and beyond.
Gaston was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion and a volunteer and member of the Millwoods Seniors Association. He had a deep appreciation for music and the arts, attending many performances at the Jubilee Auditorium and the Citadel Theatre, and was a season ticket holder at the Mayfield Dinner Theatre. Gaston deeply loved his grandchildren and found great joy in watching them play soccer, basketball, hockey, and lacrosse, as well as attending their music recitals, dance recitals, and plays.
Gaston, lovingly called Tata by his grandchildren, is survived by his children, Claudio, Tania, and Tamara (Manuel); his wife, Larraine, and her children, Glenn (Christy) and Karyn (Bernie); and his grandchildren, Muriel, Josefa, Maite, Tomas, Ignacio, Adriana, Sebastian, Caleb, Daniel, Joel, and Jordyn. He is also survived by his cherished siblings and numerous nieces and nephews in both Canada and Chile. He was predeceased by his parents, Fidel and Gricelda, and by his brother, Tito, and sister, Lola.
The family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Fairfax, as well as close family friends Carlos Valenzuela and Angelica Cubillos as they walked beside the family until the very end.
A memorial service to honor Gaston’s life will be held on Tuesday, January 20, 2026, at 7:00 pm at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church / Iglesia Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe, located at 11310 – 111 Avenue NW, Edmonton AB.
