Guenther Moellenbeck of Edmonton, AB passed away peacefully on Friday night, Aug 25, at the age of 84. His impact and legacy lives on through his beloved wife, Hilda, children Mike (Judy), Tom and four grandchildren, David, Joshua, Nicole and Matthew. He was always so proud of them and made them feel so special. He was recently blessed with a new addition to the family from his granddaughter Nicole (John). A great grandchild, Zoey. Nothing was more important to Guenther than family and friends, all were cherished.
Guenther was born in Rhede, Westfalen, Germany. He came to Canada in 1954 at the young age of 15. He worked on his Aunt and Uncle’s farm in Saskatchewan for a year and then then moved to Yellowknife, NWT where he began a new chapter in his life. As it turned out, this move significantly shaped the rest of his life as this is where he met the love of his life, Hilda Schneiderling. They were married in 1960, and recently celebrated their 63rd anniversary. Soon after being married, Guenther and Hilda began their family, and had two sons, Mike and Tom.
Yellowknife is also where Guenther’s aviation career began by working at the Wardair floatbase. A lifelong passion for aviation was born! He worked his way up from ramp attendant to Director of Maintenance at Wardair and then ultimately started his own Flight Base Operation at the Edmonton International Airport. He continued to work on airplanes right up until he entered the hospital just a handful of weeks ago.
In later life, Guenther pursued woodworking in his shop at home and made many beautiful items for family and friends.
Guenther and Hilda travelled the world, be it flying, cruising, or driving. They have both often said they lived a great and fulfilling life.
Guenther was pre-deceased by his brothers Georg, Walter, Paul, Reinhard, as well as sisters Christel, Hilde and Regy. He is survived by his brothers Werner and Hans and sister Ingrid.
The family would like to thank everyone at the Grey Nuns Hospital, and AHS homecare for their exceptional care for Guenther at the end.
