Iris was born in Deloraine, Manitoba on June 11, 1941 and raised in Winnipeg. After graduating with a nursing degree, Iris married Larry Clausen, her beloved husband for 57 years. They started their journey together with Larry’s new job in Calgary. All three of their children, Darin, Scott, and Kari were born in Calgary, where Iris created a loving and caring home. After 6 years in Calgary, they moved back to Winnipeg. Iris enjoyed raising her children in Winnipeg and spending lots of time with all her family at the cottage at Westhawk Lake. After 5 years in Winnipeg, it was time to move again, this time to Saskatoon. Iris loved living in Saskatoon as it was an amazing city for the family to grow and spend time together. As the kids were growing up, Iris returned to work, this time at the nurses’ union in Saskatoon. After 13 years in Saskatoon, Larry and Iris spent the remainder of their life living in Edmonton, enjoying time with family, pets, and friends.
Iris enjoyed being active with a special interest in golfing in the summer and curling in the winter and loved to do puzzles. Iris loved playing cards, including playing bridge with many of her close friends. Iris also loved to travel, with Maui being a favorite destination to visit with Larry over their life together. She also loved taking special trips with her children and grandchildren later in life. She had a love for game shows, and CFL games.
Iris will be missed and lovingly remembered by her sons Darin and Scott (Heather); daughter Kari, her grandchildren David (Sydney), Andrew, Jack, Kayla (Brandon), Tyler, Mady (Jake) and Hope (James); by her nieces, nephews, and by her many friends. Iris was predeceased by her loving husband Larry, her brother Bob, her sister Una, and her parents Russell and Isabelle.
We are infinitely grateful for the love, laughter and joy that she brought into every facet of her life and into ours, knowing that she has left a piece of herself in everyone that she touched.
A drop-in Celebration of Iris’s life will be held on Friday, February 20th between 1:30-3:30pm at Hainstock's Funeral Home (9810 34th Ave, Edmonton, AB) Reception Room, Level 2.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Edmonton Humane Society.
