"Jim"
In loving memory of James (Jim) Arthur Jones, who at the age of 70, passed peacefully at home on December 30th, 2023, with his family by his side after a short but courageous battle with Cancer.
Only child of Elwyn and Geraldine Jones of Rosemont, Calgary. Growing up Jim enjoyed playing football for Crescent Heights High School and later sailing on Glenmore Lake. Jim spent most of his summers in Ponoka and at Gull Lake bonding with his cousins and grandparents.
He graduated in 1976 from the University of Calgary with a Bachelor of Science in Geography and Environmental Science. Jim had a quest for knowledge and never stopped learning. He also earned a Bachelor of Administration from Athabasca University and later an Occupational Health & Safety Certificate from the University of Alberta.
Jim began his career working in the agricultural chemical industry where he cared more about the farmer and their crops than a sale. Later in his career, he moved to a Senior manager role with the Government of Alberta Agricultural department until he retired. He was a proud Professional Agrologist and a dedicated Rotarian throughout the years.
Jim met Agnes, the love of his life, in Calgary and following their wedding, settled and raised their family in Edmonton. He had a passion for classic muscle cars, which he got to share with his son. He loved visiting with his in-laws in Scotland and in recent years, spending his retirement at the cabin at Wizard Lake. His favorite place to be was at home with his family.
He had a genuine interest in everyone he met and a befriending personality. Jim would always spark up a conversation, remembering details from the last one, and rarely talked about himself. He will be loving remembered by his children as a wise, thoughtful, and kind father.
Jim was predeceased by his parents. He will be deeply missed by his wife of 41 years Agnes (McFadzean); Beloved and proud father of Carolyn (Spencer), Owen, Laura (Austin). A devoted 'Bumpa' to grandsons; Carson, Hudson, Anderson, Gibson.
The family wishes to thank Dr. Jacob Baran, Cross Cancer staff including Dr. Koski, and the nurses from AHS Palliative Homecare for their compassion and kindness through this process.
Cremation has taken place and a Memorial service for Jim will take place on Saturday, January 20, 2024 from 2 – 5 pm at Hainstock Funeral home, 9810 34 Ave NW, Edmonton, AB. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Canadian Cancer Society or a charity of your choice.
