Jodie loved with a passion. She approached everything in life with strength, commitment, compassion, and conviction. She possessed the unique ability to empathize with others, to feel their happiness, pain and sorrow. To connected with people in a spiritual way and had the intuitive ability to experience the inner energy of others. The strongly believed that the spirit will live on forever. She had an innate curiosity about everything and loved to read, watch videos and research many topics of interest to her. It was this inquisitive nature that inspired her to make sense of the universe around her. She always wanted the complete story.
Jodie met the love of her life when she was only 13 years old. Since that time, Curtis has been her rock, protector and best friend. He loved and cared for Jo like no other, and no one ever messed with her without facing Curt as a consequence. Their friendship grew into love and they have been married over 20 years. And not once in all this time did his love or commitment to her ever waiver.
“Whatever it takes.”
Jodie shared a very deep connection with her family. Upon the devastating loss of her dad in 2013, her mom became the matriarch of the family and the most important and influential person in her life. Jodie was always fiercely protective of her little sister, Kellie. Instinctively, she always seemed to know when her sister needed her, even before she was told. She was also very close to her 3 nephews and one niece, appreciating all the time she spent with them, even if just a phone date. She loved her family like no other.
Jo had many joys in life, including quiet time with Curt at home, exploring new places and, most of all the gathering of friends and family, especially at Christmas. It was a special time for Jo when she and Curt would spend summer vacations by the lake, sitting on their deck overlooking the water, reading, relaxing, and just enjoying the serenity of nature together. Jo adored all animals, most of all her baby, Tesla, and took great pleasure in nurturing her flower garden. She also had an incredible talent for makeup artistry. Jo had a way of making everyone in her life feel special, and she would create, all by hand, beautiful and meaningful cards to let people know how much they meant to her. Most of all, Jo absolutely loved to laugh. She had an infectious giggle that made everyone around her join in the laughter. She was always just so full of life
Jodie had a career with the Government of Alberta as a land titles examiner. As a "level 2" examiner, she had the unusual opportunity to take part as a trainer in an intensive training program for new recruits. She took this role on with vigour and compassion, determined that all recruits would have a job upon completion of the program. She also worked tirelessly to achieve her "level 8” examiner certificate, intent on continuing to advance her career. Jodie always wanted to help people to "be their best".
As she did with all things, Jodie approached the struggles with her health with grace, strength, courage, and determination. Despite her daily battle with pain, she lived this chapter of her life as best she could and never lost hope or her passion for life. Her illness did not define her, but made her stronger and changed how she prioritized the things that were important to her. She shared this struggle with her cousin, Marlee, and together they battled their illness, shared their pain, their joy, their obstacles, and their successes. They leaned on each other and had a special relationship only they could truly appreciate.
Jo will be remembered as someone who absolutely loved to laugh. She had the most infectious giggle which caused everyone around her to join in the laughter. She was immensely loving, kind, thoughtful, and inquisitive. Those whose lives were touched by her will miss her sweet, lovable nature. Jo was beautiful, inside and out.
Jodie was a loving wife, daughter, sister, aunt, niece, and cousin. She is survived by her loving husband, Curtis; her mother, Pat; her sister, Kellie; her nephews, Brayden and Mason; cousin, Marlee; Curt's parents, Wendy and Murdock Crowley; sister-in-law, Carrie; nephew, Cash; and niece, Jade.
She was predeceased by her father, Bob (2013); and grandparents, Bill and Geneva Tymchyshyn, and Charles and Rose Olsen.
"She was unstoppable. Not because she did not have failures or doubts, but because she continued on despite them."
