Josef was born in Ravensburg, Germany, along with his siblings, Anna, Inga, Liz, and Rudy. His parents were Josef and Berta. Josef, was married to the late Effie Jules of Teslin, Yukon. They are survived by their children, Sharon, Joey, Diana and their grandchildren, Loranda, Kari, Myles, Kristina, and Hank. Josef spent many years with his love, Charlotte and step-sons Brian and Peter along with their families. He enjoyed the visits with his nephews and nieces, Peter, Ingrid, Doris and Roland.
Josef wore many hats over the years, from volunteer fire fighter, boxer, road crew, bricklayer and tile setter. But the biggest hat he wore was as a father to three children. He taught them love, a strong work ethic, respect, responsibility, and laughter. He never complained about having to work full time then come home and prepare dinners or breakfasts. He worked hard and took his holidays with his family such as the many road trips to ski in the Rockies or the trips to the Yukon and down the US Coast to Disney. Josef lived during the hardships of war, endured the transition of immigration, worked to support his family and those he loved. He truly loved his family and at the end of the day when the job was over, he went home. As his children became parents, and too faced the challenges of life, their father Josef was there to support them with caring words, common sense and love.
Josef told jokes like no other, and shared endless smiles and laughs guided truly by his great sense of humour. He enjoyed playing cards, chess and crib with his buds, his daughters, his grandchildren, and Diana’s husband Michael. As his grandson Myles said, “he made playing crib and games so much fun.” He enjoyed watching Deutschland play soccer as much as he enjoyed playing it himself years earlier, with his children. Josef enjoyed his motorhome adventures with Charlotte and Brian, and his solo trips to visit his son and family in Canmore, his sisters in BC and his brother in Germany.
So much can be said of one’s life. There is not enough paper to tell it all. We will miss you dad with all our hearts and we will remember you with smiles and tears. May you play all the games of crib with your buds who left before you. May you get on that dance floor in Heaven to the best songs that you enjoyed. You are with us in memories and with us in our hearts. We love you Dad and we know you love us too!
The family will have a celebration of life at a later time. In the meanwhile, play a game with friends and family and make those memories.
