Kay was always an independent and determined person who knew what she wanted, set her goals and achieved them.
A member of the naval reserve, an accomplished boxer, a key employee with the Arthur Voice Construction Company (in a truly male dominated construction environment), owner of a brand new home in the Lendrum community (where she resided until her recent hospitalization). Her last employment was an accounting role with Birkholz Homes, and the friendships built there lasted her entire life.
Kay had a special place in her heart for feline friends. She took great pleasure in her collection of Royal Doulton and Hummel figurines.
Kay led an active life. She was an avid curler and golfer. She enjoyed many road trips. She was the first family member to own a trailer followed by her prized Westfalia VW camper. She lit the ‘travel bug’ for us with her stories and photos of her adventures.
Kay knew the meaning of responsibility and concern for others. Her generosity and charitable donations were considerable and far-ranging.
As mobility challenges increased for her due to the onset of Parkinson’s Disease, Kay enjoyed the company of friends and family in her home, and took a special interest in television programs that interested her. She was a Coronation Street ‘expert’…and she loved her musicals.
Kay was truly blessed with many friendships that were an important part of her entire life. In these most recent years, there was one friend who was always there for her, who shared the positive and happy moments, and supported Kay when health and mobility issues made day-to-day life challenging. Our entire family is forever grateful to Doreen in this regard.
Kay was determined to remain in her home as long as possible. This was facilitated by the support and care provided by the Alberta Health Services Home Care team for a number of years.
Kay leaves her nephews (Rick, David, and Mark) and niece (Brenda), six great nieces and nephews and three great-great nieces and nephews, as well as extended family in Calgary, Alberta and in British Columbia.
Donations may be made to the Pilgrims Hospice Society in Kay’s memory.
Cremation has taken place.
A Celebration of Life for Kay will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Saturday, August 20th, 2022 at Hainstock’s Funeral Home and Crematorium, 9810 34 Avenue NW, Edmonton, Alberta.
