Kerry Gilbert is lovingly remembered by his niece, Chagall Sierra; his cousin John Gilbert and wife Judi; his lifelong friends, Gary and Gail MacDonald and family; the love of his life Kimberley Myers, and by many friends across Canada, especially in Jasper, Alberta, where he made his home.
Kerry was born in Uxbridge, Ontario, to Danny and Denise Gilbert. His father was from Pontypridd, Wales, and his mother was originally from Bracknell, England. Danny and Denise immigrated to Canada around 1954 and raised four children: Eileen, Jann, Kevin and Kerry. Kerry was predeceased by his parents and by his siblings.
Kerry formed many lasting friendships and discovered his lifelong passion for music. Songwriting and playing guitar were central to his life, and he continued to write and create music until the end. He leaves behind binders filled with lyrics and compositions, testament to his remarkable talent and dedication. In approximately 1985, Kerry moved west and found his forever home in Jasper, Alberta. There, he embraced the small-town mountain lifestyle, building a wide circle of friends and immersing himself in the local music scene, with weekly and sometimes daily jam sessions.
Kerry was also an entrepreneur, operating his own window-washing business and becoming a familiar presence in town, fondly known as “Kerry the window washer.” But Kerry was so much more than that: he was an extraordinary musician, a gifted songwriter, and above all, a loyal and caring friend.
“The world is a beautiful place. Life is an amazing experience, especially when you have someone you can trust to share it with that isn't complicated!” — Kerry Gilbert
