Larry Wayne Clausen, beloved husband of Iris Clausen of Edmonton for more than 57 years, passed away peacefully at the University Hospital in Edmonton on Sunday September 4, 2022 at the age of 81. Larry was born and raised in Regina, growing up near Taylor Field, which led to him being a lifelong fan of the Saskatchewan Roughriders.
After graduating from the University of Saskatchewan with a Bachelor of Commerce degree, Larry moved to Winnipeg where he met and fell instantly in love with Iris. Larry’s passion for numbers and computers led him to achieve a degree as a Certified Management Accountant, achieving the gold medal for highest achievement. He also enjoyed researching companies and investing in his spare time. Over the years, Larry worked for a few different companies, moving between Calgary, Winnipeg, Saskatoon, finishing the last 13 years of his career at Atco in Edmonton, while raising three children along the way. Many years later Larry wrote to Iris that “If we could go back and start all over, I’d still want to spend another lifetime with you“.
Larry enjoyed being active with a special interest in golfing in the summer and curling in the winter and loved to travel. Maui was a favorite destination to spend time together with Iris and planned their 50th anniversary as a special trip to Disney World with all of their children and grandchildren.
Larry will be missed and lovingly remembered by his wife Iris; sons Darin and Scott (Heather); daughter Kari and grandchildren David, Andrew, Jack, Kayla, Tyler, Mady and Hope; his sister Linda, and by many nieces, nephews, and friends. Larry was predeceased by his parents Paul and Stella Clausen; his brothers Ken and Dean, and his sister Marlene.
We are infinitely grateful for the knowledge, laughter and joy that he brought into every facet of his life and into ours, knowing that he has left a piece of himself in everyone that he touched.
A drop-in celebration of Larry’s life will be held on Monday, September 26th between 1-3 p.m. at Hainstock's Funeral Home (9810 34th Ave, Edmonton, AB).
In lieu of flowers, the family ask that donations be made to the Alberta Diabetes Foundation or the Alzheimer Society.
