Larry was born and raised in Hamilton, Ontario where he lived until he joined the Canadian Armed Forces in 1958. His career of 21 years brought him to many places including Alert, Germany, Egypt, and his final posting was on the Queen Charlotte Islands. After retiring from the military, he moved his family to Edmonton in 1979.
He is survived by his son Mike McDonald (Juliette), daughter Kathleen Herbert (Winston) and his 4 grandchildren, Sean and Quinton Herbert, Emmett and Maybellene McDonald.
Larry was predeceased by his parents, Angus and Francis McDonald, siblings Bob McDonald and Donna Gill, and his son Patrick McDonald.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Memories Funeral Home and Crematorium, located at 13403 St Albert Trail, Edmonton, AB, T5L4X1, Canada. The service is scheduled for January 17, 2026, from 2:00 pm to 3:00 pm.
