It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Lionel Noel Menard on Friday, February 12, 2021, with two of his sons at his bedside. We are also joyful that he can now be with his loving wife, Helen, who he has missed for over 20 years, and be free of the physical limitations he endured while on earth. He leaves behind sons; Darrell (Janet), Gregg (Sherry), and Dan (Rose) as well as grandchildren; Nathan (Amy), Matthew, Rebecca, Jeremy, Dylan (Allison), Cody (Melanie), and Kelly. He was also blessed and grateful for his great-grandchildren; Georgia Rose, Danni Anne, Jesse, Madison, Emily, Ben, Nixon, and Kadence. He will also be missed by his sister; Jeanettte and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.
Lionel was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba the son of (Louis) George Menard and Marie Anna McKay. He 5 siblings; Irene, Louise, Oliver, Moise (Lefty) and Jeanette. Growing up in this humble, small community was where he learned his hardworking traits that characterized the way he lived his entire life. As a young boy he contracted polio but never let the long-term effects of this illness define or limit him in a negative way. Once he met Helen, he knew the gift he had been given and when the opportunity provided itself, they moved to Edmonton to start a new chapter in their lives.
It was Lionel’s smile and sense of humour that endeared him to his family, numerous friends, co-workers, and clients. As many have noted, “He was the kindest and most generous man I knew”. Later in his life he developed a passion for coffee and a good cookie. He will missed so very much.
