It is with profound sadness that the family announces the passing of Louis Thomas Mester, who died from Creutzfeldt–Jakob disease. Louis passed away peacefully at home, with his wife and daughter by his side.
Louis was born and raised in Budapest, Hungary. In his early twenties, he moved to Canada, where he lived in Winnipeg and Calgary before eventually settling in Edmonton, which he proudly called home.
Louis leaves behind his beloved wife, Liza, and her son Bryan; his daughter Tovè (Will); and his cherished grandchildren Sophia, Nayela, Noah, and William. He is also lovingly remembered by his former wife Fran, and by his loyal dog, Zypher.
Affectionately known as Papa Louis, not only to his family but also on pool decks, hockey rinks, and in school hallways, Louis was a warm, familiar presence in many lives. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
A service to celebrate Louis’s life will be held on March 6, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at Hainstock’s Funeral Home, 9810 34 Avenue NW, Edmonton.
