On April 3, 2026, Lucia Armandina Arguello, 80, passed away peacefully at Misericordia Hospital in Edmonton, Alberta, surrounded by love. Lucia was born on April 30, 1945, in León, Nicaragua, the first daughter of mother Justina and father Salomon, and beloved big sister to Haydee. Lucia grew up with a very close relationship to her grandmother, whose love and guidance shaped her deeply. She was spirited, full of life, and had a remarkable ability to light up every room she entered. Her laugh and smile could change the course of someone’s day, and her energy was truly infectious. From a young age, she was known for her strong work ethic and determination—qualities that stayed with her throughout her life.
She later married Horacio Arguello, her partner in all things. Their marriage was a testament to deep love and unwavering commitment, as they faced many hardships together — including surviving war and making the courageous decision to move their family to Canada in search of a better life. When she arrived in Canada, she learned English and began building a new life from the ground up, something that required immense courage and resilience.
Together, they raised two children — their eldest son, Javier, and their youngest daughter, Bertilda — who brought her immense pride and joy. Lucia was a loving and generous human being who gave as much as she could to anyone in need. She devoted herself wholeheartedly to caring for her husband during his illness and worked tirelessly to provide for her family, always placing their well being above her own. She was a supportive and encouraging mother, celebrating her daughter’s marriage to David and her son’s marriage to Carmen, embracing their partners with the same warmth and love she gave her own children.
Lucia adored her four granddaughters Sofia, Daniela, Victoria, and Clara and was endlessly proud of each of them. She was a loving and attentive grandmother who cherished hearing their stories, celebrating their accomplishments, and staying connected to their lives. Lucia expressed her love generously, often through thoughtful gifts, warm conversations, and the joy she felt simply being part of their world.
Lucia inspired so many people throughout her life — both here in Canada and back home in Nicaragua. Her kindness, her courage, and the joy she carried within her touched everyone who had the privilege of knowing her. She will be remembered for her strength, her warmth, her resilience, and the light she brought into the lives of those around her. Her legacy lives on in her children, her grandchildren, and the many people whose lives she brightened with her generosity and love.
Visitation will be held at Memories Funeral Home on Tuesday, April 14, 2026 from noon to 1:00 PM. Funeral Service will follow the Visitation at 1:00 PM with Interment to follow at Holy Cross Cemetery.
