Lucy died peacefully in Edmonton, surrounded by family and friends, her body finally giving in to the effects of Parkinson’s Disease. She was predeceased by her parents Julio and Maria, brothers Enrique, Gilberto, and Francisco, and sister Maria.
Lucy was born in Santiago, Chile, and moved to Edmonton with Mario and Ricardo in 1975 to escape the Pinochet dictatorship. Here she was part of building a strong and vibrant community that became her second extended family of friends and fellow exiles. She worked for over 20 years at the U of A libraries, and was committed to social justice locally and globally, dedicating many of her evenings and weekends to volunteering for numerous organizations and events. The most important thing in her life was her family, and she was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, and sister. She will be missed deeply.
