It is with profound sadness we announce the passing of our husband, father and grandfather, Ian. He was an only child and was predeceased by his parents, Dugald (Doug) and Margaret MacKenzie, as well as his son-in-law Richard Curnow.
Ian leaves his loving wife of 38 years Yolanda and children, Justine (Mike Bartlett), Brett (Sasha), and Victoria Solberg (Julian) and his grandchildren, whom he loved so much, Audrey Curnow and Leo and Lauren Solberg.
He will be missed by us, the Postma family, and many friends in the Legal Community.
Ian grew up in Edmonton. He spent his childhood summers with grandparents in Watrous, Saskatchewan and graduated from Ross Shepard High School. He went on to obtain his B.A. and Law Degree from the University of Alberta. He enjoyed his student days and is a past President of the DKE Fraternity. After completing his studies, Ian travelled extensively and reminisced about an idyllic winter spent in Ibiza, Spain.
Ian had a great respect for the Canadian Judicial System. He began his career with a small law firm and quickly found his niche, specializing in the practice of Criminal Law. In 1985 he joined the Alberta Attorney General and became a Crown Prosecutor. There he continued a rewarding career, and was highly valued for his expertise, integrity, and sense of humor until his retirement at age 71. Ian touched the lives of many and loved his family deeply.
A Celebration of Ian’s life will take place when it is safe to do so.
To honor Ian’s love of horses and animals, those who wish to make a donation in his memory may do so to an animal rescue organization of your choosing.
