Maria Berardi died February 4, 2021 in St. Albert, Alberta at the age of 76. She is survivied by her mother Giuseppa Di Placito, brother Angelo Di Placito, sisters Angela Hamilton and Irma Gabriele, son Teseo Berardi, daughters Claudia Mahdiuk and Ennia Kabyn, 6 grandchildren; Amanda Mahdiuk, Kimberly Mahdiuk, Ryley Kabyn, Sydney Kabyn, Alia Berardi and Emily Kabyn, as well as 1 great grandson, Kaden Storr. Maria is predeceased by the love of her life, husband Pepe Berardi who passed on August 20, 2020, her father Giuseppe Di Placito, and younger brother Benigno Di Placito.
Maria was born July 2, 1944 in Roccasicurra Italy, the oldest daughter of five children, into a world that demanded that she become adult at a very early age. It made her into one of the most resourceful, talented, and hard working people you will ever meet. She had a passion for learning, and so she became the best teacher, touching the lives of so many people with her willingness to reach out and share her insights and knowledge.
Pepe was the love of her life and she loved him fiercly; as she did all of her children, her family and many many friends and neighbours. Everyone who met Maria was touched by her humour, honesty and genuine care and would not soon forget their encounter. She will be missed by everyone whose lives she touched with her kindness and passion.
Her love of God carried her throughout her life with the many challenges she faced. She lived her love of God in the hundreds of acts of kindness she sprinkled into this world when no one was watching.
A private family funeral service will be held at Memories Funeral Home on February 13, 2021. The service will be limited to immediate family due to Covid-19, and will be availiable to be viewed online at: https://www.oneroomstreaming.com/view/authorise.php?k=1612866397503413
Maria was one of the most passionate gardeners, amazing everyone who watched her gardens grow over the years. Being outside with plants, dirt, and nature was her happiest place.
We ask that donations be sent to the University of Alberta’s Devonian Botanic Gardens in lieu of flowers being sent to the service, as Maria felt flowers deserved to stay in nature so that everyone could enjoy them.
