Mark Andrew Fabricius was a beloved husband, devoted father, caring son, loyal brother, loving uncle, and cherished friend. He left this world after a long hard courageous battle with his illness on January 1, 2024, at age 53. Mark left us all too soon, leaving a void that can never be filled.
Mark was born in Sudbury, Ontario to parents Sharon and late Peter Fabricius. He was a dedicated husband to Tammy and a proud father to Joshua and Tyler. Mark will be deeply missed by his sister, Debra; brother, Scott; sister-in-law, Erin; his nephews, Easton and Carter; his Uncle David, Aunt Susan, and Aunt Rosemary. Mark will also be remembered as a loving son-in-law, brother-in-law, cousin, friend, neighbour, and a great colleague to many.
Mark was curious, bright, and adorable, but just full of trouble. He loved to spend much of his childhood exploring the forest behind his home. At 17, Mark completed his thirteenth-grade high school and was awarded full scholarship to complete his Bachelor of Commerce Degree at Laurentian University. At 25, he successfully passed the UFE to receive his designation as a Chartered Accountant.
Mark’s life was characterized by his deep faith in Christ. For his high school graduation, he asked for a gift of a Bible. This faith, embraced by his sons, and the love and prayers of family, friends, and many supporters carried him through till his last breath.
Mark cherished his family and held them close to his heart. His greatest joy in life was loving and doting on his two sons, Joshua and Tyler. He was their biggest fan, cheered on them from the sidelines of their hockey, baseball, and soccer games. His love and wisdom will continue to inspire and guide them throughout their lives.
Mark was a kind-hearted and gentle soul and a true friend to many. He was known for his ease in frequent conversation with even total strangers and had an incredible ability to effortlessly bring joy to everyone and leave a lasting impression on those fortunate enough to know him.
Mark was passionate about his work and was very driven in his career. He was respected for his professionalism, hard work, and dedication. Many colleagues became close friends, a testament of his genuine interest in others and to make everyone feel valued and loved.
Mark was an avid reader, and in particular novels by his favourite author, Stephen King, and Calvin and Hobbes comics. He read his first Hardy Boys book in grade one, and patiently encouraged and taught his sons to read when they were four years old. He also loved music from heavy metal to country, but his all-time favourite was by Pink Floyd. He enjoyed watching cartoons, movies, and was a big fan of Spiderman. Most of all, Mark loved to travel. His favourite time growing up was spending Christmas holidays with his family in Florida. His travels took him to Cuba, Columbia, Lima, Croatia, Curacao, Luxembourg, Paris, Rome, India, Hong Kong, and Vietnam. His most memorable vacation was cruising the Mediterranean with his family to see the breathtaking views, explore the ancient towns, and tour some of the architectural masterpieces.
Mark loved sports. He was a die-hard fan of the Toronto Maple Leafs, Toronto Blue Jays, and Miami Dolphins. His favourite moments were spending time with his family, playing a round of golf, sitting around the campfire, going to sporting events and music concerts, strategizing to gather and build in a game of Catan, role-playing with his friends in Dungeons & Dragons, online video gaming with his brother, and binge-watching Game of Thrones.
He will forever be remembered for his passion, determination, unwavering commitment, and boundless love for life. We will miss his cheerful attitude, entertaining sense of humour, infectious giggles, and warm smiles. Mark will forever hold a special place in all of our hearts.
The family sends a special thank you to the doctors, nurses and staff at Foothills Medical Centre, Tom Baker Cancer Centre Unit 57 for their loving care and support for Mark.
A memorial service will be held at St. Albert United Church, 20 Green Grove Drive, St. Albert, AB, on Saturday, January 6, 2024, at 2:00 pm. A celebration of life will be held at a later date in spring at his mother’s hometown in Barrie, Ontario.
