Born in Edmonton, Alberta on September 25th, 1946, to Paul and Anastasia (Nancy), Marshall was the youngest of 3 siblings. He was very close with both his sister Anne and brother Mike and their families.
Marshall graduated honours with distinction at both N.A.I.T and the University of Alberta in Engineering. He truly loved his career as a Civil Structural Engineer and took pride in his profession. He was a perfectionist. He worked hard and was never one to be told or accept that something “couldn’t” be done…he would find a way.
Marshall was a devoted, loving, sentimental and caring husband to his wife Diana of over 50 years. Through the years they grew together and built a solid and supportive foundation spending a lot of time with both sides of the family. They were blessed to enjoy many memorable vacations with just the two of them, with Diana’s parents, with their children and grandchildren and with their friends making a lifetime of treasured memories. Marshall was a compassionate, gentle, impactful, and dedicated father to his daughter Dena and his son Ryan. He always encouraged their ambitions and was never one to hold back on his affection and telling them how proud he was of them.
Marshall adored his five grandchildren, Samuel, Matteo, Gianna, Emma and Brock. He was always there to cheer them on at countless football games, lacrosse games and dance festivals and was always eager to help out and provide guidance on school projects and to show them some everyday “handyman” skills. He also loved spending time with them whether it was at home, at the lake enjoying a campfire or fishing or going on many getaways throughout Alberta and the beautiful Rocky Mountains. He was close with all of them each in their own unique way and they all sure loved their Papa.
Marshall had a lifelong passion for bass guitars and muscle cars! You could often find him out in the garage listening to music and spending hours completely immersed working on his hobby car “The Shark”.
Marshall was a man of quality over quantity. He valued his relationships and friendships and had a solid handful of lifelong friends whom he was very close with. The “Newton Boys” reunited a number of years ago having weekly jam sessions which Marshall loved. We were all so grateful to hear him play the bass guitar together with his friends and seeing the band play twice live in 2023! They captured their talent at a local recording studio and their soundtrack will be forever cherished by Marshall’s family and friends.
Our love for Marshall is unconditional and he holds such a special place in our hearts. Marshall will be forever missed and lovingly remembered by his wife, children and their partners, grandchildren, and close family and friends.
