It is with tremendous sadness and grief that the family of Maximiliano (Max) Valenzuela announces his sudden passing on November 26, 2021, in Edmonton, Alberta. Max was born and raised in Edmonton. Max was on his way to obtaining an undergraduate degree, with ambitions of attending Law School. This past September, he married his long-time partner of 11 years, Emily Valenzuela. Max was very involved in the soccer community, playing for his school teams, Concordia Thunder, The Nait Ooks, and various other clubs in Edmonton. He also demonstrated his commitment to sports by volunteering his time to young athletes, and by supporting his niece Ayva during her commitment to club soccer. Max demonstrated a passion and commitment to his Chilean heritage, dancing Chilean folklore for Victor Jara dance group in Edmonton. His dedication to his cultural roots was very important to Max. We are grateful to our parents and grandparents for passing that dedication on to us. Above all else, Max demonstrated an incredible commitment, support, and love for his family; always present and willing to lend a hand. He never missed a birthday, especially for his nieces and nephews. Family events will never be the same without him.
Max is survived by his incredible and loving parents Sergio and Emma Valenzuela; his grandparents Luis and Margarita Flores; his wife Emily Valenzuela; his stepson Sergio Chanchan; his nephews, and nieces Ayva, Sofia, Michael, Luca and Lola. He now joins his baby niece Ella, who recently and tragically passed earlier this year. He is also survived by his brothers Pablo (Victoria), Danny (Michelle); his sisters, Cristina (Estevan) and Camilla (Muraso); and extended family and friends. He will also be missed by his companion and best dog friend Cesar.
Max was a kind-hearted young man who was incredibly generous, loving, funny, and had a beautiful smile. His contagious laugh could make you smile and always light up your day. His ability to always remain positive inspired others around him, and, he had this natural ability to make people around him happier. His presence warmed our hearts. He was very charismatic, sharp, and humble. His nature was experienced by many throughout his young life. Max’s generosity continued after his passing, donating his organs to save lives and support medical research.
The Valenzuela family would like to thank Dr. Leon Byker, nurses, Kim, Pam, Giselle, Bea, Lisa, Jas, Renee, and Billy and all the staff of the Intensive Care Unit at the Grey Nuns Hospital for their excellent care and compassion. Our family was deeply touched by how you cared for Max, and the emotions you shared with us during our most difficult time. We are eternally grateful for all your efforts.
