It is with great sadness that his family announces that Melton Ploof passed away peacefully in his sleep on September 9, 2015. Mel was predeceased by his loving wife, Doris, of 56 years in 2009.
Mel is survived by his three children, Calvin (Cheryl), Jan (Keith) and Derrick (MaryAnn); and his grandchildren, Joshua, Caitlin, Ryan, Alyssa, and Alex. Mel will be dearly missed by his brother, Edward (Shirley) Ploof.
Mel was also predeceased by his father and mother, Francis and Edith Ploof; five brothers, Roy, Raymond, Verne, Norman, and Clarence; four sisters, Viola, Lucille, Edith, and Myrtle.
Mel was born in Brosseau, Alberta and settled in Edmonton following the end of the World War II, where he resided until his passing.
Mel was a very positive, loving, caring, generous man whom was delighted in bringing joy to others. His passions included his family, gardening (especially onions and tomatoes), dancing and of course, the occasional trip to the casino.
A Celebration of Mel’s Life will be held at Memories Funeral Home, 13403 St. Albert Trail, Edmonton, AB on Monday, September 14, 2015 at 2:00 PM.
In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to the Kipnes Centre for Veterans, 4470 McCrae Avenue NW Edmonton, T5E 6M8 or Greater Edmonton Foundation, Seniors Housing www.gef.org.
The family wishes to extend their gratitude to the wonderful staff at the Kipnes Centre and Rosslyn Lodge for their outstanding care given to Dad over the past five years of his life.
