When Myraid (named Betty Lou at birth) was born to a young 18 year old woman, Violet B. Stroud, in Portland, Oregon on September 16, 1932 the angels sang and the world was blessed. Myraid was adopted November 1932 by Bryce Howie and Edith Helen Wallace of Trail, British Columbia and raised with her brother Ian; she would often say “I was very lucky for them to find me – I had a wonderful childhood”.
Myraid was predeceased by her husband Jack Ernest Dyck who passed away after 55 years of marriage. Together they worked hard, raising their four children in Burnaby, B.C. (Roderick, Jacqueline, Nancy and Mary) then eventually moving to Biggs, California following Dad’s retirement after 30 years as a Vancouver Fireman. Dad now could follow his passion as a beekeeper moving more than 1000 of his beehives over the U.S. border to pollinate the almond orchards and Mom was there every step of the way. Mom did the bookkeeping, took care of Dad, the house, made wonderful meals and baking and she finally got her swimming pool. Reading her “Peoples, Hello and Majesty magazines” and keeping up with what the Royal Family was doing was a favorite pastime.
Fifteen years later they would move back to Canada to be near family and grandchildren. Following Dad’s passing Mom moved to Edmonton, Alberta: It was immeasurable the joy that was brought into her life by the frequent visits she would receive from her children, grandchildren and great grand-children while residing at Caleb Manor.
We were blessed to have her in our lives: Mom is now with Dad!
Thank you to the staff at the Misericordia Hospital, very special staff and friends at Caleb Manor and especially Doctor Angela Juby for taking such good care of Mom over the years.
As requested no service will take place: Mom suffered from Diabetes - In lieu of flowers donations may be made to:
