Patricia passed peacefully at the age of 83, after a few months of failing physical health, while Alzheimer’s was relentlessly robbing her of the life she had known and cherished. It is with sorrow but also with deep gratitude that the family shares this news. Sorrow for the loss, for all of us who have known and loved Pat, but balanced with gratitude - that she was in our lives for so many wonderful years, and gave everyone she touched so much joy.
Pat leaves behind her husband Ken, her lifelong sweetheart, and three children, all of whom now have their own families: Mike (Jacquie); Doug (Maureen): and Sheila (Frank). Those ‘kids’ in turn brought seven grandchildren, and Pat’s new focus of helping nurture the next generation. Today, there are now five great-grandchildren added to the clan.
Patricia & Ken met in grade-school in Camrose, dated in high-school, and married while at the University of Alberta. Pat then focused her passion and energies on anchoring a wonderful marriage and nurturing a fantastic family. Pat and Ken made fast friends wherever their lives took them, and have retained the same wonderful core community of Camrose friends, all of whom will miss her dearly. Pat was considered a ‘sharp cookie’ by all who knew her, with a quick wit, an infectious smile, and a talent for teasing all those she loved. Her passions also included horticultural and figure skating. The global figure skating trips with her girl-friends engendered many lifelong memories of their adventures together.
This era of the CV-19 pandemic has shifted how we as a community can grieve. The family will have a very small service, and wait patiently for the pandemic to subside. We can then have a wider celebration of life down the road. In the meantime, the family welcomes phone calls from one and all if you wish to share memories about Pat and catch-up with Ken.
The family would like to give heartfelt thanks to the ‘Sapphire team’ in the Memory Care residence of the Touchmark senior’s home. Pat accepted them as an extension of her family. Their love and patience helped Pat live with grace and dignity throughout this past year.
In lieu of flowers, you may remember Patricia through support for research on a cure for Alzheimer’s.
