May 23, 1929 – March 7, 2026
With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Peter Bornia, who left us peacefully on March 7, 2026, at the age of 96. Peter was born on May 23, 1929, in Mareno di Piave, in the province of Treviso, Italy. He was just a young boy when World War II swept across Europe, shaping the resilience and quiet strength that would define his life.
As a young man, Peter left Italy in search of opportunity. He first worked in the mines of Holland before immigrating to Canada in 1953, where he continued mining work before establishing a construction company in Edmonton. For more than 20 years, he built foundations for residential homes, later spending the remainder of his career working in construction alongside his son Kevin.
Peter loved his family, his friends, good food, sports, and a strong cup of coffee. He possessed remarkable physical strength but carried it with humility. His generous, gentle, and easygoing nature made him a joy to be around. He was quick with a smile or a joke, always with a twinkle in his eye. Peter had a gift for making people feel welcome, appreciated, and somehow lighter after spending time with him.
He maintained a deep connection to his Italian roots, returning to Italy as often as he could. His heritage held a special place in his heart, and he was an active member of the Italian Cultural Society in Edmonton.
Peter is survived by his sons Kevin (Theresa) and Colin (Juliet); his grandchildren Katie and Josh (Natika); his great‑grandson Emmett; and his sisters Gina and Anna in Italy. He was predeceased by his beloved wife of 64 years, Adele, and by his brother Arnaldo.
A viewing will be held at Memories Funeral Home, 13403 St. Albert Trail, Edmonton, AB, on Tuesday, March 31, at 11:00 a.m with the service to follow at 12:00 PM. Interment will follow at Northern Lights Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that memorial donations be made to the Terry Fox Foundation.
