

He had a happy and carefree childhood which was marred only by the death of his mother in April 1939.
In 1945 his family was forced to flee before the advancing Russian armies. Overnight they became refugees – losing all of their material possessions. Eventually the family found refuge in a small village in Saxony, Germany.
Richard was able to finish his high school in East Germany in 1948. He then fled to West Germany, and in 1949 found work on a small dairy farm in Switzerland.
In 1950 Richard immigrated to McNutt, Saskatchewan where he worked on a farm. Over the next 3 years he worked in various jobs in Winnipeg and in Northern Ontario.
On June 28, 1952, he married his wife Claudia at McDermott Baptist Church in Winnipeg. In 1953 they moved to Oliver, BC where he worked in various orchards. His son Karl was born on March 19, 1954.
In August 1956 he moved to Edmonton and worked for 35 years as a letter carrier and later on as an accountant until his retirement in 1992.
Richard was an active member of Central Baptist Church singing in the choir, teaching Sunday School, and serving on the Finance Committee and various church boards and committees for more than 35 years.
On November 2, 2014, Claudia, his beloved wife of 62 years passed away. Since then, he has been longing to be reunited with her. His prayers were answered on July 29.
He is survived by his sisters Ursula Bunstock of Chico, California and Eva Stricker of Victoria BC, his son Karl, daughter-in-law Debbie, grandson Donovan, his wife Hyesun, and great-granddaughter Alice.
