Mr. Page was one of the most outstanding teachers I ever had; he was a key source of inspiration that eventually led me to pursue teaching.  His kindness, enthusiasm, and commitment to the learning of his students was rivaled by very few.  I am devastated to hear of his passing; he was with us for far too short a time and will be missed far too much.  I am incredibly saddened to know I never had the chance to meet him again after all these years and tell him how his teaching has shaped my life.  I will always remember his famous saying, "Work hard.  Be nice."  Let Shayne's legacy carry on!

Mr Page will remain on my top 3 teachers of all time list. He always appeared rough around the edges, but was a softie on the inside. I remember being the recipient of the "rolled news paper" threat on occasion. Mr Page was one of those teachers that made you see the value in the work you were doing, regardless if you thought it was relavent at the time. Now I'm a firefighter, and require a deeper understanding of science than I ever thought I would. Mr. Page's lessons still stick with me, and in a way help keep me safe at work! Rest in peace, and know that you made a difference in my life.

I was a first cousin of Shaynes.  We lost track of each other about 40 years ago and I was saddened to hear of his passing.  Shayne spent several years staying with us when he attended the University of Alberta.  As in his pictures, I remember his smile as well as his unusual laugh.

I was very sad to hear of Mr. Page's passing and regret the news arrived too late for my family and I to attend the service to honor him. He was my science and home room teacher from 1980 - 1983 but our friendship really developed through Ski Club, Outdoor Ed and our many camping and ski trips outside of school at Lorne Akins. 

Looking back at the people in my life that have really made a difference for good, Mr. Page is one of those exceptional individuals who has truly made an impact and formed part of my character. He was all about adding value to people. He accepted you where you were without judging you but cared enough to encourage you not to stay there but to reach for something better. He was pivotal in my life when I needed to believe in myself and course of direction. He gave me that. It was like I had two dads. 

I especially appreciated how transparent he was. He would just let you right into his life. I feel so blessed that my wife and two girls had a chance to get to know him a little when we would visit Mr. Page out at his home in Cardiff. We should have visited more. He is an amazing man, teacher and friend and he will be missed dearly by us. What an incredible legacy he has created.

Having just heard of Mr. Page's passing my heart is truly saddened.  In a student's life there are only a handful of teachers who truly TEACH and Mr. Page was gifted with that ability.  Mr. Page, you are missed.  My heart goes out to his family at this time.  All our love from Alaska.

Shayne was truly unique in his ability to positively impact those around him.  He inspired his students with passion and commitment and encouraged them to bring their best.  I feel fortunate to have had him as a teacher, and blessed to have had his friendship over the last twenty years.
I am sorry I was unable to attend his memorial.  He will be missed and he will be remembered.

We are deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Shayne. He was a very important person in the lives of both of our daughters and remained in touch with personally written notes and cards. He will be remembered fondly.

It is with great sadness that my husband and I received the news of Shayne's passing.
I had the good fortune to teach with Shayne for several years at Lorne Akins.  Shayne was a respected colleague, master teacher and caring individual.  Students who had Shayne for a teacher were indeed fortunate.
We all admired Shayne's many talents.  His colorful gardens, beautiful quilts and fabulous meals were all something to experience and envy.
We are sorry we are unable to attend Shayne's memorial .  We know he will be missed by many friends and family.

Mr. Page was an awesome teacher.  I had him for homeroom every year and science class.  Each Christmas he would make us our own Christmas stocking and fill it with candy.  He was so thoughtful and such a good teacher.

Mr. Page was one of those rare teachers, and human beings, who helped you find the best in yourself even when you thought that you had nothing of worth to give. He made the world a better place for many, many people.

I had the privilege of being in Mr. Page's science class at Lorne Akins. He retired the year I graduated from grade 9 in 2000. He was a very special teacher and will be missed!! Thanks for the memories!!

Our deepest condolences on your tragic loss.  As evidenced by the heartfelt comments expressed here by Shaynes' students and colleagues, he was a talented teacher.  As evidenced by his excellent family, he was a devoted son, brother and uncle. Although we are unable to attend Shaynes' funeral, we are thinking of you all during this most difficult time.

My sympathies to the Page family.  I was a student at Lorne Akins 1980/1981 and had Mr. Page as a teacher.  He was a great teacher and will be missed.

Mr Page, as he will be remembered by so many, was a kind, smart, devoted, and inspirational man, and will be dearly missed by both myself and many, many, others.
I recently had the opportunity to return to the return to Lorne Akins, as a student teacher, where I could not help but be reminded of his legacy on both the building and its staff. The experience was fantastic, in itself, but a sure highlight was a visit by Mr. Page, simply to drop off some cookies for the staff, but also to offer me some kind words of advice on how to "remain sane."

I was very sorry to hear of Mr. Page's passing.  He was one of the best, and hardest working, teachers it was ever my pleasure to have.  he had a profound and lasting impact upon a great many of us and will be greatly missed.

What a magnificent science teacher Mr. Page was. He would always say "People! You have to do your twenty minutes of review every night!" In this sad time, he is still teaching. A friend of mine, and myself would go into the school early for extra help. One morning we asked him what the "H" stood for in his name because he would always sign his papers Mr. Shayne H. Page. We came up with so many names and never came up with the right one. The only clue he gave us was that it was five letters and had the pattern of consonant, vowel, consonant, vowel, consonant. Today, I learned what that "H" meant. What a fabulous name Hazen is. What an honor it was to be in his science class at Lorne Akins. My deepest condolences to the Page family.

RIP Mr. Page. Thanks for being a teacher who touched countless lives. You were one of my teachers in Junior High, which is not one of the easiest places to teach. Yet you excelled there. And because of you, we excelled too.

It is with a heavy heart that we  will start our Tuesday art classes without Shayne. All of us have enjoyed his warm downhome humour, gardening tips and homemade baking. He spoiled us!
He loved painting, especially the prairies and farm buildings where he grew up. We were very fortunate at Hidden Talent to have him as a friend and send our condolences to his family.

Mr. Page was an amazing teacher who helped inspire me to become a science teacher myself.  I am grateful that I had the privelege of being taught by him.  My condolences are with his friends and family.

Mr. Page was very good at his job and showed a lot of compassion to me one day when I was having a bad day. He taught me back in the late 80's at Lorne Akins. Sorry to hear the news.

My sincerest condolences. I'm continually amazed Shayne at how all your various little tips for learning, working, and thinking - and indeed your wonderful quirks - have stuck with me all these years. I was your student for much too short a time, and then lucky enough to be your friend for some time after. In retrospect Shayne, you were the only and the earliest one to teach me to love learning. And this is precisely what enabled me to take charge of my own education in a world of teachers telling students what to think rather than how to begin thinking. So it is in your memory, Shayne, that we will continue on beginning to think and falling repeatedly in love with learning.

Mr. Page was one of those teachers that I will always remember and who inspired me.  I was at Steele Heights in the 70's.  My sympathy to the friends and family.

Mr. Page......WOW, You will be missed.  I always enjoyed science class at Lorne Akins and it was all because of him.  He made learning fun for all.  My condolences to his family and friends, he was a special one.

I too remember 'This is my sandbox', 'The moon is made of green cheese' and the time I was playing with an elastic that got away from me and whizzed by his head in mid-lecture.  He calmly stopped, reached behind his desk and pulled out a box of elastics and began returning fire!  He was a great teacher, one of those teachers that you think back and really appreciate having.
Remember the divders we had to use for those science tests?!!  I could go on for a long time...  To his family, please accept my condolences.

I was a student at Lorne Akins from 1984-87.  I was not only lucky enough to have been a student in his class but he was our teacher adviser for the Yearbook club. We enjoyed skiing the slopes in the Ski club as well.  He was a magnificent teacher and I to this day tell the story of his famous "This is my sandbox" speech at the beginning of each school year.  As my son headed to Jr. High this year I remembered my favorite science teacher Mr. Page often.  My condolences to his family.

I am saddened to hear of Shayne's passing.  He was a wonderful teacher, a gentle and caring person and a good friend to many.  He has left us far too soon.

Shayne was such a warm and gracious man to all whose paths he crossed. As colleagues we remember the hard working, professional man with the kind spirit. He brought a sense of calm to every situation. He was rarely flustered and instinctively recognized when a colleague needed a lift or smile. 
I will always remember our "popcorn chats". We talked about how we both loved to make homemade popcorn in the evenings - while marking or watching TV...It's all the little details we remember...fleeting moments in the tapestry of a rich, well-lived, much-loved life. 
Shayne went about his work and life in such a straight-forward, always composed manner. 
Like alll of us, I wish that I had had more time to chat with him when we last met in June. We never know such "last times" do we...I am filled with sorrow that I didn't share many things with him when I last saw him.
My deepest condolences to his family.

A word which will resonate through memories of Shayne will be "gentleman".
He was a steadfast, honourable colleague and I extend my sympathy to the family, most especially Mrs Page.
I am sorry that I am too far away to be able to attend his service.
