Sonja Constance Jean was born on February 01, 1939 in Port Authur, Ontario to parents Kathleen Cook and William Nurmio. Connie passed away peacefully and was welcomed into Heaven on Monday, September 23, 2019, with her loving family gathered by her side. Connie is now together with her beloved husband Tom and her son Tommy whom have predeceased.
Tom and Connie were married on January 10th, 1955. With few opportunities they decided to move to Yellowknife, Northwest Territories and lived there for 35 years. Together they worked hard running their own businesses and built a beautiful life in Yellowknife. Tom and Connie were true soulmates and showed us what LOVE really is. They took their wedding vows very seriously. They cared for one another and in the later years when their health was declining they were there for each other for better or for worse in good times and in bad, in sickness and in health. A real testament to what love is.
Connie was a loving and supportive Mother who was always encouraging to her six children Kathe (Jack), Jim (Terra), Judi, Kandace (Themos) and Joel (Megan). She was a Giving Grandmother to her Grandchildren Dustin, Stephanie, Kyla, Shayla, Meghan, Krista and Taylor, and a Gracious Great-Grandmother (GG) to Kasen, Livia, Logan and Evelyn. As the matriarch of the Pagonis family, she was the glue that kept us all together, and our family has a huge hole without her here. A Mother’s Love is the Heart of a Family.
In 1990 they moved to St. Albert, Alberta and enjoyed their years in retirement always together. Connie enjoyed baking, they loved to take afternoon drives to Morinville, spending time having coffees together at Kingsway Mall, attending church, going on walks and bird watching at Man Made Lake in St. Albert, Alberta.
Connie took her service to the Lord seriously. She worked at the Youville Home for 15 years working in Pastoral Care. She provided ministry services, often praying with residents and families and managing their care. Connie brought hundreds of people to know Jesus. She would always say “All things work together for those who love God and are called according to his purpose.”
