Susanne Eva Schaefer

She will always be remembered for her kind heart, her patience, her beautiful smile - her devotion to Gerhard, her commitment to family and friends - and her understated elegance.

Ever since they became high school sweethearts, Susanne and Gerhard were inseparable. They got married in April 1957. A couple of months later, in their early 20s, they left post-war Germany. They crossed the pond by ship (in separate men's and women's dorms) with a couple of hundred dollars, and the fewest of possessions which all had to fit on their new 250cc single cylinder BMW motorcycle.

With this, their education, and their incredible work ethic (or Arbeitswut!) their lifelong journey and adventures began.

After 72 years together, married for 66, Gerhard misses Susanne dearly. As do we all:

daughter, Helen (Walker) & Kevin; grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Krista (Taylor) & Scott + Dominik, Jesse, Meredith, Rebekah, Kurtis & Dayna + Noah, Liam, Emry, Levi, Andrew, Susanne (Susie Schartner) & Tyson + Joel , Kathryn, Brendan, Daniel, Alana (Walker) + Alex Tiller.

son, Robert & Lorna;

daughter, Barbara + grandchildren, Joshua, Jacob, Jeremy;

son, Thomas & Helena + grandchildren, Luke, Ana;

daughter, Christina (Behnke) & Dave + grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Samantha (Armstrong) & Sean, Robin & Echo + Jae, Mason, Brittany, Victoria, Jessica, Robert, Christopher.

Whether you can attend or not: Susanne wants us to celebrate her life, so please wear joyful colours!

Together with Gerhard, Susanne epitomized charity, always helping others with acts of kindness and/or financially. In lieu of flowers please continue this tradition.

A Celebration of Life for Susanne will be held Tuesday, September 19, 2023 at 1:00 PM at Hainstock's Funeral Home & Crematorium, 9810 34th Ave, Edmonton, AB T6E6L1.
