Vern was born in Haynes, Alberta, to Justine and Lester Maller. An entrepreneur at heart, he founded and operated numerous successful businesses throughout his life. On September 8, 1956, he married the love of his life, Doreen. Together, they shared 69 wonderful years and raised four children.
Vern will forever be remembered for his kindness, humor, and unwavering devotion to his family and friends.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Doreen; his sister, Helen Ferguson; his children Brenda, Blaine, Paddy, and Lori (Brian); his grandchildren Kelsey (Adam), Bailey, Holly, Taylor (Aaron), Jordan, Quinn, Chloe (Braden), and Steen (Clara); and his great grandchildren Bennett, Hannah, Charlie, George, Phoebe, Rosie, Axel, and Asher.
Vern was predeceased by his grandson, Zackery.
The family extends heartfelt thanks to Dr. Fuentes and the compassionate caregivers—Medy, Benita, Charlita, Elvira, and Germanita—who supported Vern over the past several years.
Great-Grandpa was deeply loved and will be profoundly missed by all who knew him.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, November 23, from 12:00–3:00 p.m. at The Derrick Golf and Winter Club, 3500–119 Street NW, Edmonton, AB.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer Society or the Stollery Children’s Hospital.
