

Wie Jimma Reath was born on November 4, 2002, in the Gambella Refugee Camp in Ethiopia. He was born to Nyachieng Gatwech Thijok and Simon Jimma Reath Wie. His family immigrated to Canada from Ethiopia in 2003. Wie was the second oldest of six children. He is survived by his siblings Yoal, Akobo, Mer, Both, and Douth, as well as his aunt Nyakobo, his uncles, his grandmother, and his parents.
Wie grew up in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He loved church activities, such as attending the Thomas S. Monson Camp in the summers and visiting the Sacred Grove in Palmyra, NY. Wie graduated from St. Joseph’s High School in 2021 in Windsor, Ontario. Before completing secondary school, he played high school basketball as well as AAU travel basketball, which allowed him to play with various teams in the U.S.
Wie was a hardworking individual—energetic, talented, kind-hearted, friendly, generous, compassionate, and strong. He was known for his charismatic smile and uplifted the people around him. He loved to share everything he had with his siblings and the rest of his family.
Wie’s unwavering support, generosity, kindness, jokes, and smiles will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and community.
His legacy will forever be remembered.
A Celebration of Wie’s Life will be held at the Coronation Park Chapel of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints,
