I owe my UPS career to Don.
I met Don two months before I was hired. We were riding in a elevator making our deliveries. Don for UPS and I for Sparkletts Water Co. Our customers happen to be neighbors on the 15th floor. On our way down, Don encouraged me to apply at UPS. He told me where to go and who to see. A month later I walked into the building on State Street and met Dave Tolman and John Tracy. I told them Don Paddock had sent me cause UPS needed good workers.
After I was hired, Don trained me on how to do the work. I ended up taking his route in Hilcrest and he went to a route in South Bay or Chula Vista.
The rest is history.

One day at a retiree's breakfast Don told me he had bought a vacation home in Cimarron, New Mexico. I told Don that Juan Martinez grew up in Cimarron and went to High School there before joining the Air Force. After the Air Force, Juan joined UPS. What a coincidence!

There are too many to share. I have known Don since 1960! We shared many memories together during our teens at Mt. Miguel High school and continuing after both of us served in the military. I was his Best Man at his wedding. Don always loved to say that I was his witness that his wife Annettte "promised" to obey him for life. To be honest, I don't think that carried much weight though! Our families have been intertwined ever since celebrating Birthdays, Anniversaries, Holidays, camping trips and trips to Las Vegas! Don was always the life of the party and even though he left me "hanging out there " in jest a few times, I knew he always had my back! He has always been like an older brother to me and I will miss him terribly. May you rest in Peace my Best Friend and say hello to Dottie and our families and friends that will be greeting you in Heaven!

I too worked with Don at UPS for many years . He was always such a jovial person with a positive personality and I very much liked talking with him and being around him. He was an asset to UPS and the world was a better place because of him. I offer my sincere condolences to his surviving family members. He will be missed !

I first met Don when I begun my UPS career in 1975. He was funny, witty, and kept us laughing most of the time. But his time and experiences at UPS for me was truly helpful
and appreciated.
Don was a friend of mine.

I worked with Don for many years at UPS. He was always a nice guy
and he had great HAIR which some of us envied.
We both went into the Army about the same time and we both
came back to UPS. He was sent to South VIETNAM and I to
South Tacoma ( not sure which was worse but I was entitled to
combat pay there if I went downtown !!

Don, All of your many friends miss you very much.

P. S. I can't come to your funeral as you never returned my only
dark suit. GENE R, VASHAW

I remember Don loving his family, and having a way of spoiling his friends, and welcoming you into his space with a big friendly smile, no one was a stranger.
R.I.P. Don, I will cherish your memories when I first met you on State Street.

Don was truly a friend. When I arrive at UPS, he had been their a couple year prior. He gave me confident and great hope of making an successful career. His home was not off limit, and always made me feel welcome. When I would come to the monthly retirees breakfast, it was always a joy to see him there and greet him. May God always count him as a friend as well.
