Felipe “Daddy Ipe” Bondoc Deus, 84, of San Diego, California, passed away on October 8, 2024. Born on May 26, 1940, Daddy Ipe was known for his commanding yet generous and kind demeanor, embodying the role of a father and grandfather not just to his own family but to all who knew him.
Daddy Ipe had a distinguished career as the Vice President of Zenith Insurance, where his leadership and expertise were invaluable. He was a pillar in his community, always ready to lend a hand or offer wise counsel. He told numerous stories of his upbringing and childhood, especially his time at Aliaga Elementary, Aliaga Provincial High School, and Liwag College.
Daddy Ipe was known to many for his assertive manner and endless generosity, but to those that knew him as “Lolo,” he was much, much more. He loved Starbucks mochas with extra whip, Handel’s Coffee Heath milkshakes, (expired) graham crackers, and the sweetest pancakes he could find on the iHop menu— bonus points if they were served by a pretty waitress. He threw up peace signs, stuck his tongue out, and posed with duck lips in selfies. He wore plaid jackets, funky hats, and insisted on wearing holey $1 t-shirts and boots kept together with duct tape.
He loved watching sports, old western movies, and the Spanish channel— but hated when you call him out for not knowing what he was watching, or better yet, for not understanding Spanish. He loved being surrounded by his family and hearing their laughter all day, but hated their late night showings of Burlesque or Nicki Minaj’s discography on vh1.
His grandkids knew his comforting presence by the smell of his Skin Bracer aftershave and his enveloping warm embrace. They knew him by his ever-present Sunny D bottle, the glove on his left hand, and his pride for each and every one of them.
Felipe B. Deus was remembered for his love and acceptance of not only immediate and extended family, but friends and friends of friends as well.
He is survived by his loving family: his children Sonny, Freddie, and Thess; daughters-in-law Jayvee and Jeanette; and his cherished grandchildren Kristien, Mike, Phillip, Ericka, Bran, Kat, Jyren, Kaye, Sam, Sean, Kit, Iska, Althea, and Dominic.
Felipe was preceded in death by his beloved wife Thelma, brothers Manuel, Felix, Silvestre, and Eugenio, sisters Victoria and Mercedes, and his parents Dominador and Dolores.
A memorial viewing to honor Daddy Ipe’s life will be held on October 26, 2024, from 10 am to 4 pm at Dignity Memorial, located at 684 South Mollison Avenue, El Cajon, CA
