
Charge James B. Liddell passed away on February 17, 2016 with family at his side. Jim, Uncle
Jimmy, Diego, Mr. Liddell was born in Gary, Indiana in 1934 to Raymond and Beatrice
(Sullivan) Liddell. He graduated from John Adams High School in South Bend, Indiana in 1953.
He served two years in the U.S. Army, ending up stationed at Fitzsimmons Army Hospital where
he met and married his favorite nurse Vie in 1956. He graduated from the University of
Colorado, Boulder in 1961 with a degree in Pharmacy, and moved to San Diego shortly after
with the first three of six children. He worked for many years in the San Diego area before
bravely buying his own pharmacy, Avocado Pharmacy in 1975, where he promptly put the
whole family to work. Many Sycuan Tribal members were Jim’s clients, and they asked Dad to
set up the pharmacy at the Sycuan Medical Dental Center. Jim then became their pharmacist,
and only partially retired in 2010; he loved being a pharmacist so much, he was still filling in
when needed up until a month ago.
Jim is survived by his wife Vie, children Michael (Janet), Kevin (Suzi Arnson), Kathleen
(Peter), Denise, Tamara (Bill) and Lisa (Jim); thirteen grandchildren, and many, many beloved
nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his parents Ray and Bea, siblings
Barney, Ray, Robert, Mary, Corinne, Jeanne, Beatrice, Bernadette, Martha and Renee.
He was a Gold Knight in the Knight’s of Columbus, a Scoutmaster with the Boy Scout Troop
355, performed with and volunteered for Covenant Ark Theatre with the family for many
seasons and many entertaining musicals. Jim was an active parishioner at Santa Sophia
Catholic Church,and one of the founding leaders/singers in the Folk Group there for over 20
years.
Celebration of Life will be held Saturday February 27th, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. at Santa Sophia
Catholic Church in Spring Valley, California. Viewing on Friday, February 26th at 5:00 p.m.
followed by the Rosary at 7:00 p.m. at El Cajon Mortuary on the corner of Washington and
Mollison in El Cajon, CA.
